Summer Hindi-Urdu Language Program at Columbia

Summer 2016 Program 

The Hindi-Urdu Program in the MESAAS Department of Columbia University, one of the leading centers for the study of South Asia in the country, now offers intensive summer Hindi-Urdu courses at the elementary level.  Full details of the 2015 program will be announced shortly.  A description of the Hindi-Urdu program at Columbia can be found on the website of the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies.

The Hindi-Urdu summer courses are comprehensive and taught by experienced, full-time instructors who teach in Columbia's Academic Year program.  Columbia’s is the only Hindi-Urdu summer program in the country to offer training in both Hindi and Urdu scripts. Students can expect to have reading and writing facility in both languages by the end of the elementary course.
 
Special Features of the Columbia Hindi-Urdu Summer Program:
Special tuition fee (2016 tuition: $3,260 per course.)
Instructors hold daily office hours
Field trips to South Asian neighborhoods and restaurants of New York City
Mandatory cultural activities on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon
Screenings of Bollywood movies 
Cooking lessons
   
Courses are offered in two four-week sessions for Summer 2016:
Elementary Hindi-Urdu I  (May 23 to June 17)
Elementary Hindi-Urdu II  (June 20 to July 15)
