A Columbia-Barnard Teach-in:

Ram Janmabhoomi Movement and the Demolition of the Babri Masjid

Join leading scholars of South Asia to make sense of the controversies surrounding the Pran Prathisthan ceremony in Ayodhya this year. Some questions we will address
include: What are the uses of the past for our present and futures in India and beyond?  What is the archeological history of the Ram Mandirsite and what were the legal
debates that led up to this moment? What role did the media play in the Ram Janmabhoomi Movement, and what forms of violence did it generate? What were
some cultural responses to the destruction of the Babri Masjid? And finally, what significance does this moment hold for the political future of India?
